When a pet dies the choice usually comes down to two routes. A pet specialist handles the cremation directly, or your own vet arranges it with one. Every entry below says which it is, because the route changes both the price and whether you get the ashes back individually.

Before you call
82 providers publish a price on their own site. The middle price is $92 for a communal cremation and $148 for a private or individual one. See every price with its source.
Ask whether your pet is cremated alone and how it is tracked, the two things the pet crematory association tells owners to confirm. What to ask on the phone.
Questions people ask
How much does pet cremation cost?
82 of the 1,065 providers on this site publish a price on their own website. The middle price among them is $92 for a communal cremation (24 prices) and $148 for a private or individual one (26 prices). Most are starting prices, so ask for the price at your pet's weight.
What should I ask a pet crematory?
Ask whether they do individual cremation and how they track your pet through the process. The International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories advises confirming both. Providers use the words private, partitioned and communal in different ways, so ask whether the ashes you get back are only your pet's.
What happens if I leave my pet with the vet?
There is no rush, most clinics can keep a pet for a day or two. But if you leave the remains with your vet, you may have no say in how they are handled, the association warns. Ask your vet which crematory they use and which kind of cremation it is.

What is missing, and why
Two things are missing. Most prices, because most providers do not publish them. Where one does, the price is quoted from their own page with a link and the date we read it, and it is usually the smallest weight class. The second is whether a provider does individual or communal cremation — that single question decides whether the ashes you receive are your own pet. Ask it on the phone. We will not print an answer we have not verified. Coverage is also uneven. The list started with the 48 largest metro areas, and in November 2026 we added a search across every state. That search returns at most 60 places per state, so in large states smaller providers may still be missing.
